Cameron Park / Cal Fire Department Cooperative
Agreement
In November of 1996, The Cameron Park Community
services District (CSD) entered into a cooperative agreement with
the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF)
for fire prevention, suppression, investigation, and emergency
medical services (EMS) for the community of Cameron Park. Known
within CDF as a Schedule 'A' contract, the CSD has access to all
of CDF's statewide resources. Cameron Park provides EMS and Fire
protection operations out of two stations: Station 88 and Station
89. The Cameron Park Fire Department provides paramedic service
from both stations 24-hour a day, seven days a week. The addition
of a fulltime Fire Prevention Captain oversees the CSD's fire
prevention and investigation responsibilities. Fire personnel
work a 3-day / 72-consecutive hour shift per week. There are currently
20 fulltime members assigned to the Cameron Park Fire Department
contract; 1 Battalion Chief, 1 Fire Prevention Captain, 1 Fire
Captain/Paramedic, 3 Fire Captain/EMT's, 10 Fire Apparatus Engineer/Paramedics,
and 4 Fire Apparatus Engineer/EMT's.

Blood
Pressure Checks
High blood pressure, often referred to as
"the silent killer," claims the lives of tens of thousands
of Americans every year. The Cameron Park Fire Department offers
free blood pressure checks daily during the normal business hours
of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Any and all are welcome to have their
blood pressure and pulse taken once or twice a month, or even
tracked over a period of months. Simply come to one of the fire
stations during normal business hours and request one of our on-duty
paramedics to check your pulse and blood pressure. Your visit
can also provide an opportunity to have some of your healthcare
or fire safety questions answered. Feel free to bring a tracking
card with you from your doctor, or we'll just keep you on file
here to track changes in blood pressure over time.
| MISSION STATEMENT:
The primary mission of the Cameron Park Fire Department is to
preserve and enhance the quality of life of the residents of
Cameron Park and to safeguard the health, safety, and welfare
of the community through effective fire prevention, fire control,
emergency medical service, and public education programs to
provide a highly-trained and properly equipped emergency response
team and to mitigate the effects of disasters and all hazards
to life and property for which the organization is charged. |

Cameron
Park Burning Ordinance
As of January 1, 2001, outdoor residential
burning is restricted within the boundaries of Cameron Park. These
restrictions prohibit outdoor burning of parcels less than one
acre in size except for the first two weeks of April and the first
two weeks of November each year. During those weeks, residents
wishing to engage in outdoor burning will be responsible for securing
the necessary permits and for checking whether or not it is a
permissive burn day by calling 1-866-621-5897 BEFORE burning.
Safety Tips
Smoke Detectors - Numerous types and styles of smoke detectors are available
on the retail market. Some are simply battery powered, while
others use the building's electrical power for main power and
have a battery back up in the event of a power failure. An easy
reminder to replace smoke detector batteries is to check them
at the same time clocks are changed as a result of Day Light
Savings. This will ensure that batteries are replaced at least
twice a year and hopefully limit the chance of a battery failure.
It also provides an opportunity to visually inspect the smoke
detector for excessive dirt or dust build up. These types of
problems can often cause a smoke detector to malfunction or
not function at all in the case of a fire. Additionally, smoke
detectors will give an occasional "chirp" sound when
there is a low power sensed. Check the electrical connections
and/or replace the battery immediately, regardless of the time
of year, to prevent a smoke detector from failing to do its
job. If the smoke detector continues to have problems, have
it repaired or replaced by a qualified service technician immediately.
Don't ignore your front line defense for signaling a potential
emergency in your home!
Extension Cords - Minimize the use
of temporary extension or "zip" cords. They are designed
specifically for "temporary" use and not as a substitute
for permanent wiring. When used for long continuous periods
of time, extension cords have been known to overheat and fail.
The end results are sometimes the origin of an electrical fire
that can quickly spread. It is highly recommended that extension
or "zip" cords be replaced with the use of surge protected
power strips. Not only do these devices protect electrical appliances
but they will "trip" themselves off when an electrical
surge or overheat condition occurs.
Evacuation Plan - It is highly recommended
that every household and business have a predetermined evacuation
plan in the event of an emergency. Important points to include
in the evacuation plan are routes of travel to exit the building
with a back up plan should the first route be blocked. As well
a single meeting point for occupants to rendezvous once outside
so all can be accounted for. Take time as a family or group
to identify all of these points and make sure everyone understands
clearly what to do in the event of an emergency. Practice your
evacuation plan and time it so you have an idea how long it
should take for everyone to escape and meet at the rendezvous
point. |
